It is mainly used as raw material of dysprosium metal, additive of glass and permanent magnet of NdFeB, also used in halogen lamp, magneto-optical memory material, yttrium iron or yttrium aluminium garnet, atomic energy industry. Dysprosium oxide can also be used as an additive to the permanent magnet of NdFeB system. Adding about 2-3% dysprosium into this magnet can improve its coercivity. In the past, dysprosium was not in great demand, but with the increasing demand of NdFeB magnets, it became a necessary addition element with the grade of 95-99. Demand is also growing rapidly, at around 9%. Dysprosium oxide is also used in making raw materials of dysprosium metal, as well as additives of glass and permanent magnet of NdFeB.
