*Samarium Chloride is a chemical substance with a molecular formula of SmCl3• 6H2O, a Light Yellow snow-like solid, soluble in water and deliquescent in humid air. It is generally prepared by reacting Samarium oxide and NH4Cl, preparing a solution and then concentrating and crystallizing.
*Used for extracting Samarium and or making Samarium compounds. Or used for electronic industry and scientific research and chemical reagent. Samarium chloride is used for the preparation of samarium metal, which has a variety of uses, notably in magnets. Anhydrous SmCl3 is mixed with sodium chloride or calcium chloride to give a low melting point eutectic mixture. Electrolysis of this molten salt solution gives the free metal.
*Other applications of samarium include catalysis of chemical reactions, radioactive dating and an X-ray laser. It has specialized uses in glass, phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices. Samarium Chloride is used for the preparation of Samarium metal, which has a variety of uses, notably in magnets. It can also be used as a starting point for the preparation of other Samarium salts.
